The problem
A lawyer can be great in court and still have a quiet money mess in the back office. Then the state auditor asks for proof, and suddenly months or years of client money records have to be rebuilt fast. Solo and small law firms pay about $600-$1,500 a month for legal bookkeeping, and cleanup gets worse the longer it sits, according to Accounting Atelier. Regular bookkeeping tools do not prove which client every dollar belongs to, and many general bookkeepers avoid this work. Why now: California now requires yearly client-money reporting, self-checks, and certification, and the State Bar of California says noncompliance can lead to penalties and inactive status.
