The problem

Small subcontractors often get a sudden "be certified by [date]" demand from primes and panic because certification can mean months and five‑figure spends. The broken moment is when a shop assumes the whole business is in scope and starts buying equipment and services they don’t need, losing time and money they can't afford. Many small suppliers make up most of the defense industrial base — roughly three‑quarters of contractors are small businesses — and GAO and industry reporting show assessment costs and gaps range from a few thousand to six figures and assessor capacity is thin (GAO-26-107955; The Defense Compliance Report). Existing options are consultant‑driven full‑stack remediation or scheduling scarce third‑party audits, which either force unnecessary builds or leave the firm stuck with backlog and lost awards. This is urgent now because the DoD’s phased CMMC rollout fixes November 10, 2026 as the Phase 2 point when third‑party Level 2 assessments become required for many contracts, creating a hard deadline and booking pressure on the limited pool of authorized assessors (32 C.F.R. Part 170; Cyber AB marketplace reporting).
